Inner Child

Day 1 of 6

Recognising your Inner Child

Every journey needs a first step, and this one is a kind one. Day 1 is about arriving, feeling safe in the group, and learning to tell the child’s voice from the grown-up’s — closed with a soothing Inner Child meditation.

Before we begin

Nothing is asked of you but curiosity

You don’t need any experience, any special words, or any idea what an inner child is. You don’t have to share a thing you don’t want to share. We build the group guidelines together before anything else, so you know exactly how this room works — warm, confidential, and with plenty of humour and fun along the way.

How the day unfolds

A gentle first step

  1. Welcome, introductions & group guidelines

We start with a cuppa and a proper hello. You'll share what you're hoping to gain, get your course folder, and together we agree the guidelines that keep this group safe, kind and confidential.

  2. The Jelly Bean Tree

A well-loved picture exercise with a simple question: where are you on the tree today? It's a gentle, wordless way to show how you're feeling — and a marker we come back to later in the course to see how far you've travelled.

  3. How do we know we have an Inner Child?

A tick-list of quietly familiar things — denying what we really feel, living up to everyone else's expectations, keeping control so the walls don't tumble down, having no freedom to play. Recognising yourself here is the beginning, not a diagnosis.

  4. Step 1 — Recognising Inner Child vs Adult

The heart of the day. We look at the difference between the child's way of meeting a problem and the adult's — blaming versus owning, attacking versus listening, big feelings versus steady ones — so you can start to spot which one has picked up the reins.

  5. A closing Inner Child meditation

We finish softly, with a guided meditation to settle everything the day has stirred and offer the child within a first moment of being noticed and welcomed.

What you take home

A quieter, kinder way of noticing

Most people leave Day 1 with the same small relief: oh — that’s what that is. Once you can recognise the child arriving, you no longer have to be swept along by it. That recognition is what everything else on the course is built on.

Day 1 runs as a full day, in person and in a small group, with breaks and tea. Your handouts and folder are included.
